Birds Treatment and Learning center is a non-profit agency that takes in injured wild birds found by citizens that call in the emergency.

This Job shadow was an oppurtunity to learn about the native fauna of our wild and arctic state.

Birds TLC Quick Facts

 

  • Success rate for rescuing birds is 50%

  • Have three large flight pens to hold large birds

  • ​Meals consist of frozen mice, rats, and quail

  • If the birds can't be released they are educational birds

  • Don't release birds in the winter because there isn't enough food supply

  • Most of their birds get hit by cars or get damaged by human causes

  • Another source of income is from donations and silent auctions

  • Their birds are their "moneymakers" 

  • International Bird Rescue pays most of thier rent and gives them large discounts

  • Worst case: An eagle had flown near a landing float plane and got caught in the engine. Part of his face was torn off and they had to put him down.
